n my neighborhood, there are quite a few interesting Hobbits, many of whom you can meet yourselves if you check in with the Shire Post Office. There are many more than just these, and not all of them are registered with the post office. Scroll down and meet a few... (in Alphabetical order)
This knowledgable Hobbit is a surveyor by profession
This young fellow loves nothing better than a good time with his friends.
"Steadfast Sam" Brandybuck is both a cartographer and Shirriff who dresses well and who is quite a pillar of the community. But like his cousin and others, he frequents the local taverns for a pint and a puff.
A blue-blooded young Hobbit who is very proud of his ancestry -- and who will tell you all about it if you ask him.
The legendary and dashing adventurer, teller of tall tales, and fabulously wealthy, to boot. I adore him.
Her name is actually "Diamond", but she is called "Mundee" by all her friends. She is much interested in geneologies as she was orphaned as a child, and no one claimed her. She may be related to Pandro on her mother's side, however.
I am not sure what "Larry" is short for -- perhaps Laridoc or just plain Larro or Larfast -- but he is a pleasant chap, always looking for good companionship. His last name suggests that his family originally came from Buckland.
My dear friend Pansy is a talented musician, but she still has not registered her name with the post office. She will not get many party invitations or Yule cards that way.
Orgulas, or "Orgie" to his friends, is a jolly fellow--the second son of old farmer Maggott. He developed a dislike of mushrooms somewhere along the way, though -- so this is a rather old picture when he was just a farm boy. He has left the farm and dresses more like an "urban" Hobbit -- though he can't resist the Lederhosen that are reputedly the sort of pants worn by boys of Rohan...
A sweet and pretty young Hobbit-lass who loves to sew and make things with her hands..
Miss Rosie loves dacing and singing and life in general. Perhaps this is because she is a midwife who has delivered hundreds of healthy Hobbit babies. She is also a bit of an herbalist, and mothers consult her before they consult the doctor!
The Mayor of Michel Delving, postmaster and mintmaster, the reputedly "fattest Hobbit in the Shire" is an accomplished and hard-working gentlehobbit. Still -- even the smallest Hobbit-child calls him "old flour-dumpling" behind his back since that incident with the collapsed tunnels...
I do not know the identities of either of these two persons -- but you must admit that they certainly do appear to be genuine Hobbits!
Treebeard will take you back to the previous page.
All of the Hobbit drawings on this page were created by "Daisy Brambletoes".
They are not to be used without written permission--unlkess you are one of the Hobbits depicted above-and I know who they are, anyway--so there !

These days, Orgie is in the town of Michael Delving and is in business, after a fashion. Of course there's still that country-boy straw between his teeth...
WE NOW CAN SHOW SAMPLES
Merlin is a merry chap with twinkling, good-humored eyes and a pipe tucked in his hatband. He is never without his cane or his cat, Sebastian.
The smiling chap in this photo is Orry Loamsdown, not far from the Green Dragon Inn, and probably standing nearby some of the outdoor tables that our taverns often have outdoors during the summer. That half-pint mug looks as if it contains a very tasty brew!
This is Arlo Smallbottle, the local schoolmaster. I would not have his job for anything, but the children do seem to like him. He lives here in Frogmorton, but the school is somewhere on the East Road, drawing little ones from Hobbiton, Bywater, Frogmorton and Whitfurrows. The Est farthing has a very high literacy rate.
This is my wonderful husband, Mongo, holding a toy Gondorian soldier. He's a first-rate craftsman and an extremely good cook, too.
This is my handsome young son. A bit of a thinker, a bit of a scholar, and quite a tinkerer with mechanical things.
On a much more cheerful note, the young man at the right is usally believed to have been a Human, but he had some very elvish qualities -- one one look at him tells me that he must have had Hobbit blood. he liked to eat and he smoked a pipe. He was a very small person, and I still suspect that if there was a full portrait of him rather than just this profile, we would all see his bare, furry feet--and he is reputed to have enjoyed going barefoot at home, too! His name was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and he lived from 1756 to 1791 by your human calander.
On the other hand, I am sorry to say that I DO know the identities of this pair of rather disreputable-looking Hobbits. They would NOT have been among my friends, and they lived along the northern banks of the Brandywine River, many years ago, before anyone alive in the Shire today was ever born. I am afraid to say that they both came to a very bad end -- and the "lucky" one was the one who was killed by the other in a fight ! In some ways, they were sort of like Merry and Pippin -- except their mischief was far from harmless. I am told that the one in the left was especially mean, and the other one met a terrible fate later on.
If you don't yet know who they are, you will probably find out in "The return of the King".
